The Easter Thunderball.

Real Steel Series, Round 1: 14th-17th April '06

Monday morning came and it was that special day again. Its not often a spanner monkey gets TWO lots of presents! The Birthday continued with the delivery of special go-faster juice from the Backdraft gang. Cheers! (The wrapping in a gasket box was the real icing on the cake!)

The birthday continues! Beer; the king of presents.....

With several other classes running in 32 and 16 car fields it was going to be some time before The Wild Bunch had our first round. In the mean time the crew cleaned the Belle and Twisted Crew Dave span her up on the axle stand for the warm up.

Ready for the day ahead

The afternoon came around and we were paired against Roy Wilding for the first round elimination. Roy had been on pretty good form and had beaten us at our last meeting back in 2005. We dialled in a 9.60, quicker than we had gone all weekend in order to avoid a breakout and Helen knew she would have to cut a good light. The tree flicked down and after the staggered start Helen roared down the track with a 0.12 reaction. Although we ran the fastest of the weekend a 9.72 our low dial in had saved us as Roy broke out and we were through to the semi finals.

We headed back to the pits and ran through a few checks ready for the semis, but the weather gods had different ideas. It began to shower on and off for the next few hours and after a valiant effort by the track crew the event was called of around 8pm. Despite not getting the last two rounds in, we had a fantastic weekend and would once again like to sincerely thank, the track staff, the other racers and the spectators for making this an Easter to remember.
