The Easter Thunderball.

Real Steel Series, Round 1: 14th-17th April '06

Sunday morning came bright and breezy and we headed into what was to be a very nice day. Sarah and Darryl had organised an Easter Egg hunt for the Wild Bunch Juniors and Pooky and Penny were lucky enough to get spoilt with an egg (or two...) each. Not happy with just having chocolate the other team members indulged in another sugary intake.. ice cream.

We've got this racing thing licked!

With some time on Sunday set aside for the track's anniversary celebrations, and some rather dodgy weather, it looked like we would get another couple qualifying rounds in today, making a grand total of 8. Surely that's some kind of record? Well we battened down the hatches for an early pass and tried to get a bit closer to the dial in. We targeted where we had left off yesterday by dialling in a 9.78 and frustratingly just ran under it with a 9.76 at 133mph.

Lining up for the next pass!

"Happy Birthday to you"

The last qualifier came at eight in the evening and we reduced the dial-in again to try and get a last minute push on the qualifying positions. With a 9.74 dial in we just pushed past that and again ran under with our fastest time of the event so far a 9.68 at 134mph. With the last chance gone we headed back to the pits for a bit of rest and relaxation.

When the qualifying ladders had been calculated we were number 2 qualifier just behind the Wicked Lady and a whisker in front of Crazy Chris.

and....Lining up for the next pass.....!!

Chief Spanner Monkey Dean was going to be a ripe old age (35) on Monday morning and seeing as it was likely to be a rather busy and exciting day, the team decided to open a few cards and presents early.

Ploughing his way through the huge pile of generally rude and/or offensive cards, Dean came to a few pressies too. A "Dragster" game from 2 decades earlier was presented and subsequently became the focus of attention!

After we'd settled down we managed a couple of celebratory drinks with friends as is the fashion.
