The Power Nationals
Ultimate Power Series Round One
16th/17th April '05
Somewhere in there is a lost crew member.
After the shock of the frost it was down to the serious business....... Dean's Birthday ! Lots of cards, pressies and cake to be enjoyed.
Thanks to everyone who wished him well in his old age. How better to celebrate than with friends and family at the track ?
Sunday morning started with Helen noticing the layer of frost covering everything including Twisted Chris's tent ! Suddenly struck with guilt Helen went to check she was okay....only to find she was toasty warm, wearing every item of clothing she had with her ( hat and gloves included ) wrapped up in her sleeping bag and topped off with her new team fleece !!!
Dean is 21 again! Look at all those cards!
mmmh cake..
The Birthday hoard..... guarded by Pooky and Penny.
and heave!!
We really did get down to serious business, and Twisted Crew Dave warmed up the Belle ready to go.
The whole team then donned their new team shirts and caps, looking very smart in a wash of purple. The shirts were made by Ian Turboville, who also supplied the fabric to make sure Pooky and Penny could match the rest of the team.
The first round of eliminations took place at midday and our No 1 qualifier position gave us a bye run into the next round. This was fortunate because we dialled in a 12.90 but ran an off-pace 13.39 due to a misfire at half track.
The weather got a bit cooler through the afternoon and by the time we went down for the semi final there was a definite feeling of moisture in the air. The dampness continued for some time and we returned to the pits to be re-called should the weather improve.
It was not to be and the meeting was rained-off. The Ultimate Power Series points would not be decided, but the Real Steel points were awarded against the performance in the quarter finals. Due to our misfire we only came in fourth, but we got a nice shiny trophy to prove it! along with one for being No 1 qualifier, and another for the best appearing team, although we are now known as "The Purple People"!!
Our old friend the fire up road.

I think a touch of boredom may just be setting in.
